May I be a mountain

May I be a mountain

I'm blown away by the diversity of landscapes in California. This past week, I saw the ocean, mountains, desert and farmland...all in the course of less than 48 hours. On Thursday, Pastor Richard took another church member and I to see the crown jewel of California landscapes: Yosemite National Park. If you've never been, I can't fully explain it or share a photo that does it justice. But here's a shot to give you a sense of its splendor.

Trying to accurately describe Yosemite—and the feeling you get when you're driving around and gawking at what you're seeing—is impossible. At least for me. It's just one of those places you have to see for yourselves.

After arriving back home from the park, I wrote a poem inspired by what I saw:

May I be a mountain

Steadfast, strong and true

With quiet majesty I stand

As glory goes to You

When blessings pour upon me

However small they seem

May I make a river

Passing love along downstream

When thunder clouds surround me

And shower fear and hate

May I make a waterfall

So darkness meets its fate

As sunlight dries dark water

And sends it to the sky

May it come back as a blessing

So my river never dries

Sharing the blessed journey
